Associação Guarda-Chuva
As the name suggests we offer support and encouragement to some of the many small charities in the area who wish to have a legal status.
This is our mission statement:
This association has been created to promote and support a number of small organisations working in the Algarve on behalf of needy individuals, children and families and animal welfare. This support includes help with fund raising projects and support and encouragement to individuals who want to volunteer their time to help one or more of the charities.
At the moment we comprise of 3 small charities:
Support for Families in the Algarve (Su & Mike Davis): Support for Families responds to the needs of local families and individuals struggling to buy every day household objects and furniture, items that we take for granted. We make appeals to residents and visitors, willing to help us source white goods, electrical items, unwanted laptops, furniture, baby equipment and babies’ and children’s clothing. Through fund raising we provide new shoes and underwear for children and school bags with materials every year for needy children/students. We also provide Christmas presents for children every year and food parcels when we can.
Algarve Emporium charity: has an active team of 17 volunteers headed by Caroline Langston.
Our primary role is obtain and supply food to people in need in Tunes. This has been our mission now for over 3 years. This activity is made possible by collecting and selling goods donated by our supporters plus cash and food donations. In addition we hold fun events and online auctions via Facebook.
Currently we feed 23 families and the number is still growing. Overall we have help over 65 families.
Our work is only possible by the very generous donations from so many people.
We are currently spending over 350 Euros a week buying fresh meat, vegetables, fruit and topping up the staples to ensure everyone gets a bag full of food to last them.
We have a Facebook group called Algarve Emporium Charity, that will keep you updated on our news and future events.
We are asking people to drop off food donations to the following places at any time,
GUIA, trolley in Overseas Supermarket
TUNES, collection box in Jaffers Supermarket
Or meet some of the team to donate at:-
Monday, by Burger Ranch in SILVES, 11.30 – 12.30
Friday, Between the lines in TUNES, 11.30 – 12.30
NEXT COLLECTIONS EVERY MONDAY Elaine Evans will be collecting donations for Algarve Emporium Charity near Burger Ranch in Silves from 11.30 to 12.30 We accept donations of food, household goods, clothes, bric a brac, anything we can sell or cash.
PUB QUIZ. Phil Allen holds a fun pub quiz at the Between the Lines bar in Tunes on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month. Everyone welcome.
PUB QUIZ. Phil Allen also holds a quiz night at the Fusions bar in Silves once a month on a Tuesday.
Our priority is to provide food for families so all donations are sorted to help us to generate money. Some items are sold while other things go directly to the families. If you would like to see what we do and who we give to, you are very welcome visit our distribution point at Between the Lines Bar / Cafe in Tunes 11.30 – 12.30 every Friday. Sit back with a drink and observe but also come behind the counter to see what is given and ask any questions you would like to.
