National Horse Fair

The Portuguese national horse fair is held in Golegã is a small village located between the rivers Tagus and Almonda, in the district of Santarem. The Fair is an annual event which takes at the beginning of November.

This is the biggest horse fair in Portugal transforming the small village into a Meca all those who admire the Lusitano horses, attracting people from throughout both Portugal and Europe.

The Fair began in the mid-18th century when it was known as the Feira de S.Martinho. It later became The National Horse Fair in 1972 taking place during the first two weeks of November.

The Fair demonstrates the equestrian art, horse-breeding, bull-breeding, handcraft, culture, and food.
