Fundraising Event
A scrumptious English afternoon tea party, with a Portuguese twist, to help raise funds for our firefighters in the Algarve and Lower Alentejo regions of Portugal.
The Jubilee English Tea Party in Portugal
Figs on the Funcho and Associação Alerta de Incendio Florestal (Alerta) are raising funds for our firefighters by hosting an English tea party, with a Portuguese twist, to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
In June 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service!
To celebrate the jubilee we are hosting a tea party in the Algarve. Starting with a glass of fizz and finishing with a scrumptious afternoon tea whilst enjoying views of the idyllic countryside. We will set the tea tables, under the carob trees, with our best teapots and cups. You will have a choice of teas including Earl Grey, English Breakfast and herbal teas such as peppermint tea and lemongrass tea that is made from the leaves grown in the garden of Figs on the Funcho.
Every tea party needs scones with clotted cream and our volunteers will be baking these traditional cakes for you to enjoy. There will be tasty finger sandwiches, cakes and savoury delights including the famous Portuguese custard tarts, pastel de nata, and other favourites.
The tea party event will help raise money for the Associação Alerta de Incendio Florestal / Forest Fire Alert (Alerta) that provides the firefighters with water, food and clothing when battling wildfires in the Algarve and Lower Alentejo regions and also for the purchase of firefighting equipment and uniforms.

The President of the association, Alerta, Debby Burton, who recently received the British Empire Medal for her services to the community in Portugal, founded the association following the extensive fires in 2016.
Money raised helps Alerta to make purchases that will benefit the Bombeiros and the communities they serve.
The Alerta Facebook page, staffed by a small army of volunteers provides up to the minute information concerning the current fire situation. You can join the Alerta Facebook group here.
The dedicated volunteers work tirelessly throughout the fire season to ensure that the brave Bombeiros are kept supplied with necessities.
