Nat. Museum of Ancient Art
Lisbon’s National Museum of Ancient Art doesn’t have the same recognition or media exposure as the city’s other major art institutions. It does however offer visitors a exceptional opportunity to plunge themselves into Portuguese culture and its connection to the rest world.
The museum’s charming golden painted façade and regal baroque entryway welcomes visitors to its doors. Inside, visitors are encouraged to start on the top floor where paintings and sculptures from native Portuguese artists are exhibited.
The second floor features decorative arts and fine furniture, many of the pieces acquired during Portugal’s period of exploration.
The first floor is home to an exquisite collection of wider European artists such as Hieronymus Bosch. Also the Chapel of the Albertas, a small 16th-century shrine that belonged to a convent once located on the site can be found on this floor.
The museum also has a beautiful outdoor sculpture garden.
