As I advised you was likely in Friday’s briefing, the government has in fact decided to bring forward the 2nd phase of the deconfinement which was due to start in September, however the restrictions on wearing a mask in public places will still be in place until at least the middle of September. The Council of Ministers has approved the resolution declaring the State of Contingency has now replaced the State of Calamity throughout the mainland Portugal, until 23h59 on September 30th 2021.

The rules that will apply at this 2nd stage from today, August 23 until the end of September are as follows:

  • Restaurants, cafes and pastelarias now have a maximum limit of 8 people per group inside and 15 people per group on terraces
  • Loja de Cidadão can open without prior appointment from September 1st
  • Cultural shows in fixed nature venues with 75% capacity
  • Public transport no longer have reduced capacity limits
  • Family events (weddings and baptisms) now have a maximum limit of 75% of the venue capacity.

Further easing of restrictions is expected when 85% of the population have had their complete vaccination.

afpop Office visits
At the moment we will maintain the office visit rules by appointment only. To make an appointment to visit the afpop office you can call or e-mail on 282 458 509 or info@afpop.com. I’ll assess this again in line with government guidance on face coverings and social distancing rules in September. Please remember to wear a mask and at arrival we will measure your temperature and ask you to sanitise your hands.

Until next time as always my best wishes to you all and please continue to stay safe, particularly in the high temperatures expected over the next few days.
