New 100 and 200 euro banknotes go into circulation

Members will notice that there are new notes in circulation, which have the same colour as the previous notes but are smaller in size. They also have new security features and complete the implementation of the Europa series of notes.

The new 100 and 200 euro banknotes are five millimetres smaller in height compared to the first euro banknotes, having the same size as the 50 euro banknotes, which make it easier to handle.

"Being of the same width, the 50, 100 and 200 euro banknotes can now be handled and processed more easily by the machines and they will also fit better into the purse or wallet and have longer durability, as they will be subject to less wear and tear” according to the European Central Bank (ECB) on its website.

The new notes maintain the designs of architectural style, the notes of 100 will continue to be green in colour and the design in baroque and rococo style and the €200 notes will continue with yellow colour and to portray 19th century architecture.

The new notes will circulate simultaneously with the old notes, so Members do not need to change any existing notes they may have.
