The Speakers

Daisy Sampson
Daisy first moved to Portugal over 20 years ago and lives in the central Algarve with her teenage daughters and Canadian partner. As the CEO of afpop, the largest association of foreign residents in Portugal, she and the dedicated team provide members with a comprehensive range of information, services and support. Over the past 40 years, afpop has helped over 37,000 members navigate their way around living, working and enjoying Portugal, and currently has a membership of over 9,000 active members.

Margarida Ferreira
Graduated in Psychology with a Master’s degree in Neuropsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience. Specialised in Clinical and Health Psychology and a member of the Portuguese Psychologists’ Association. Currently works at the Algarve Branch of Alzheimer Portugal, where provides psychological support, neuropsychological assessments, cognitive training and group activities for people with dementia and their carers/family members.

Tania Camilo
Physiotherapist with more than 25 years of experience and CEO of Tecnifisio – Specialised Physiotherapy and Wellbeing. At the beginning of her career, she dedicated herself to the treatment of neurological conditions, working mainly with children. Over the past 20 years, she has specialised in Paediatrics as well as Women’s Health, which are currently her main areas of practice; Vice-President of the Mamativa Association and Co-founder of the Algarve Breast Cancer Congress.

Christina Toft
Christina has embraced many roles across her 79 years — wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, social worker, teacher, trainer, business owner and author. She founded and managed a successful NVQ Assessment Centre in social care and management, helping more than 12,000 students achieve qualifications, and authored Care and the Registered Manager’s Award at NVQ Level 4 alongside other publications. Originally moving to São Brás de Alportel in 1999 and settling permanently in 2006 with her husband Jeffrey, Christina has remained deeply involved in community life. From running a popular local computer shop to leading online community groups with thousands of members, her focus has always been on connection and support. Today, she continues that work by running a support group for carers and people living with dementia and Parkinson’s disease, while also helping raise significant funds for disability charities in the Algarve.

Henrique Nunes
Henrique Nunes is a Physiotherapist and Clinical Director of PhysioAlba, a rehabilitation and movement clinic based in Tavira, Portugal. Specialising in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy, exercise prescription, and active rehabilitation, he has worked with a wide range of individuals, from athletes and active adults to those seeking to improve their function, independence, and quality of life.
His professional experience includes collaboration with sports organisations, international competitions, and projects involving physical and intellectual disabilities, contributing to a person-centred approach to rehabilitation.
Passionate about movement, healthy ageing, and functional longevity, Henrique believes physiotherapy should extend beyond pain management. His work focuses on empowering people to stay active, independent, and confident throughout every stage of life, using evidence-based strategies that support long-term health and wellbeing.

Tavira - Library
The Biblioteca Municipal Álvaro de Campos opened to the public in 2006 as part of Portugal’s National Public Reading Network. It houses a valuable collection with origins dating back to the 19th century. The building blends the city’s historic heritage with contemporary architecture and is regarded as an architectural landmark, while also hosting a variety of cultural events. Named after Álvaro de Campos, a literary figure linked to Tavira, the library promotes broad access to knowledge, with a particular focus on local and regional history and culture.
