Welcome to Northern Portugal. I am the local Area Event Organizer for the afpop Members in Porto and the surrounding areas. I volunteer with a few other Members to organize a variety of fun get togethers in the area. We try to do something every 3-5 weeks. The events range from tours, meals, happy hour socials, short cruises, and local field trips. The active Members continue to grow every month and in a short time these events have built a very fun and supportive community where many new friendships have developed.

We send out an activity agenda every few months. The office will send you the most current edition when you join.

Lipor Recycling and Composting Tour

On September 4 the Porto group had an incredible tour of the Lipor recycling facility and composting operation, which services about 1 million people in Porto and the surrounding area. The tour was highly interactive, and the engaging Q&A was fascinating. The tour lasted almost four hours and left us with a much greater understanding and appreciation of recycling. We took this tour in December 2023, but it was pouring rain then. Thankfully this year the weather was perfect, which made it more enjoyable.
