Porto Jail House AKA Photography Museum

This is one of the most prominent and iconic buildings in Porto. The museum is always free (except for some special exhibitions). Most of us know it as the Photography Museum, however historically it was the main jail in the region. This tour will be focused on the history of the building as well as some of the prominent criminals and political prisoners incarcerated there.We will have the opportunity to visit Camilo's old cell, the former "Quartos da Malta", the old women’s cell, where Ana Plácido was held, and the curious little altar where masses were celebrated on Sundays. We will also visit the old cells, now transformed into exhibition spaces.

When: Friday, July 30 from 3:00-4:00pm

Where: Portuguese Centre of Photography (Photography Museum), Largo Amo de Perdição, Campo dos Mártires da Pátria 2117, 4050-600 Porto

Cost: €7.50 (maybe €9.00 if the group is small, but this is unlikely). Pay by cash, which we will collect there and make one payment.

Details: Please arrive 15 minutes early to pay and ensure we start on time.
