We are pleased to invite you to an informative seminar on Wednesday, 6th of May, at the Ericeira Business Center. This session is specifically designed to provide you with clear, reliable insights into the practicalities of living and planning your future in Portugal.
The session will begin with an introduction by Daisy Sampson, providing an update on afpop and its latest initiatives. We are also delighted to introduce Tim and Maria Kirkham, our new Ericeira event organizers, who will be joining us in their new roles.
Our expert guest speakers include Matthew Krystman from Blevins Franks and João Pinheiro from Medal Insurance. To ensure you get the most out of the session, we will conclude with a dedicated Q&A session.

The Speakers

AFPOP
Daisy first moved to Portugal over 20 years ago and lives in the central Algarve with her teenage daughters and Canadian partner.
As the CEO of afpop, the largest association of foreign residents in Portugal, she and the dedicated team provide members with a comprehensive range of information, services and support.
Over the past 40 years, afpop has helped over 37,000 members navigate their way around living, working and enjoying Portugal, and currently has a membership of over 9,000 active members.

MEDAL Seguros
João is Chief Operating Officer at MEDAL, a family-owned brokerage founded in 1996. Having joined the business in 2010, he has played a central role in its growth and operational development, helping to strengthen MEDAL’s position as a leading insurance broker to expats in Portugal. João holds a degree in Business Management from the University of the Algarve and a Master’s in Business Management from ISCTE Executive Education. His presentation will focus on health insurance and the Portuguese healthcare system from a practical perspective for foreign residents.

Blevins Franks
Matthew has been working in the financial services industry since he graduated from university in 1995. He began his career at a major UK life and pensions organisation before becoming an independent financial adviser a year later. In 1997 he set up and ran his own independent financial services company in Central London.
In 2000 Matthew left the UK to embark on a career in international financial services that has taken him to Madrid and then on to Lisbon in 2003, where he has settled. He joined our Portugal team in 2014 as our Partner for Lisbon and the north, and in 2025 was promoted to Senior Partner.
Matthew specialises in advising high net worth individuals in the areas of investments and tax planning. He is a member of the Personal Finance Society and speaks both Spanish and Portuguese fluently. Matthew is an adviser for Blevins Franks Wealth Management Limited (BFWML) which is registered with the Malta Financial Services Authority. He is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

AFPOP Ericeira event organisers
Tim and Maria Kirkham, your Area Event Organisers for the Ericeira region.
We fell in love with the area when we first visited just after 2020! We now live here with our golden cocker spaniel Finn and shortly will be joined by our son and his family! We are looking to arrange events and get togethers and raise the awareness of the afpop association to the Ericeira community.

Ericeira Business Factory
Created in 2015 to support entrepreneurs and startups that contribute to the economic development of the region. The Ericeira Business Factory focus is the development of businesses linked to the Blue Economy, Tourism and Technology. They:
- Back the development of startups through personalized support, a network of mentors and partners, and connection to the innovation ecosystem.
- Provide workspaces for entrepreneurs with established projects who are looking to integrate into the local entrepreneurial community.
