News from afpop - Friday 17th of February 2023
Included in this Member Briefing: 1. E-faturas and Household changes 2. Train strikes 3. Carnaval 4. Satellite offices
Good afternoon to you all and welcome to the first of the now bi-weekly Member Briefings. Thank you to those kind Members who contacted us with their support for the new routine for mailings. It’s rewarding to know that we are in line with the sentiments of Members on this and of course we will always send a mailing if there is anything that we feel you need to know, whenever that may occur.
As has become usual there are now no updates from the government or SNS regarding COVID restrictions, but I did sit up and take notice yesterday when during lunch I saw the news on Portuguese TV and saw the prime minister wearing a mask. I still don’t know why he was wearing it, but there is nothing from the government about mask wearing, except of course the standing order regarding medical facilities.
So with no further ado, here are some items that we hope will be of interest to you.
E-faturas and Household changes
An almost final reminder that you only have until Monday the 27th of February to validate and confirm any expenses that you are claiming on the e-Fatura personal page on the Finanças website. See also our article in the February Update Magazine.
The deadline for taxpayers to report household changes that occurred in 2022 has also been extended until the 27th of February 2023.
Train Strikes
The Railway Unions announced another train strike for the 27th of February till 1st of March, which might cause more disruptions. There is now an official announcement on the CP – Comboios de Portugal website yet, but you can refer to their website:

Carnaval
Although Carnaval Tuesday is not included in the list of official public holidays, as there is in Portugal a tradition of organising parties and festivities at Carnaval, the Government has decided to allow public and state offices to close on the 21st of February. Some private businesses may also be closed on that day, so it is perhaps a good idea to call first, or check any website for opening times, before you make the trip. Please note, the afpop office will also be closed for Carnaval, but will be open Monday 20th and Wednesday 22nd as usual.
Satellite offices
afpop staff will be on hand in the Satellite Offices again in February 2023. If you need advice or assistance, wish to introduce a new Member to the Association, need to renew your subscription or just have a general query, please pass by and see us. Please contact the afpop office to make an appointment on 282 458 509 or info@afpop.com
