FS33E - 112 Call Script

Encountering an emergency situation is stressful and frightening, made more so when having to deal with people over the phone and in a language that we are not confident in. This Fact Sheet aims to give help in those times, by allowing you to prepare what you will say and learn some basic terms before you have to use them in an emergency.

The form is designed for you to record your important information, so please make sure that you don’t leave it on display – but keep it readily available where you can quickly access it. We suggest downloading a form for each member of the household.

We recommend that once you have a completed form, you take the time to learn the pronunciations of any phrases that are difficult to remember and practice them from time to time. This may help you to remain a little calmer when an emergency happens and keep the stress levels down.

Before we begin, remember:

  • First you can ask if they speak English (Fala Inglês?

  • In cases of falls or serious accidents, the victim must not be moved.

  • Try to keep the victim awake by talking to them.

  • Remove any dangerous items from the vicinity.

  • Stay on the phone until they tell you that you can hang up. Do not hang up before this.

To find your GPS coordinates on a mobile phone; turn on location on your phone, go to the Maps app and press the ‘Centre’ icon, which is the small black compass circle with the dot in the centre. This will put your location in the centre of the screen, then hold finger on the location icon (Red pear shape) and the GPS coordinates will appear in the search box at the top of the screen. Make a note of these in the space provided on the form. *There is an example below showing the exact location of the afpop office.

The sections for ailments and allergies have space for you to record anything specific to your situation, so if they are not included in the glossary of terms and you need assistance with translating them to Portuguese, please contact the afpop office. Likewise with descriptions of landmarks, for example “the lane just after the green box next to the bus stop”.
