M01E - Permission to Drive

After some contradictory information from the IMT office and the Police, we are now able to update this bulletin with the correct information.

A car owner may lend their car to another person with valid driving licence.

The driver must carry the original documents of the vehicle, photocopies are not allowed, and also have his/her own identification documents.

THIS IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. This document’s only use is to inform the police that the vehicle is not being used without the owner’s knowledge.

It must be filled out in block capitals, and a photocopy of the car owner’s identification document must be attached. (Valid Residência Card or Passport or ID).

Eu, CAR OWNER’S FULL NAME, de nacionalidade NATIONALITY OF OWNER, portador do passaporte nº OWNER’S PASSPORT/RESIDENCY CARD NUMBER/ID CARD NUMBER , residente em ADDRESS OF OWNER OF CAR, proprietário (a) do automóvel MAKE AND MODEL OF YOUR CAR matrícula CAR REGISTRATION, declaro para todos os fins convenientes e em especial, para fazer fé perante as autoridades Aduaneiras e de Trânsito, que autorizo o Sr. (a) FULL NAME OF SECOND DRIVER de nacionalidade NATIONALITY OF SECOND DRIVER, portador(a) do passaporte nº SECOND DRIVER’S PASSPORT NUMBER a utilizar o referido automóvel para viagens turísticas e pessoais dentro do território Nacional Português.

On a separate line: Locality where you reside CAR OWNER’S PLACE OF RESIDENCE and date CURRENT DATE (e.g. Portimão, 8 de Agosto de 2024)
